The Swedish town Sigtuna is located next to the Sweden’s largest airport and is the fourth largest hotel destination in Sweden. Sigtuna is an example of a destination which sets clear targets for sustainable tourism development and works cooperatively with all the stakeholders to achieve them. Their significant results in sustainable practices were recognized both nationally and internationally: Sigtuna’s sustainability coordinator was nominated a sustainability leader of the year 2015. Animal rights organization nominated them Swedish Animal Friend of the Year. Sigtuna municipality won the Swedish Recycling Award 2014 among others.
