Volcanoes National Park is situated in Rwanda. It is one of the three national parks in Central Africa populated with mountain gorillas, a critically endangered animal species. Volcanoes National Park is also home to several species of monkeys, spotted hyenas, buffaloes, elephants, black-fronted duikers, bushbucks and also houses various bird species.

The government decided to limit the number of visitors to a maximum of 8 permits per gorilla group each day in order to reduce stress on the apes and create a more sustainable activity. Furthermore, part of the revenue collected from tourists goes to the local communities surrounding the park.
